Vacancy.com Scholarship Entry

I'm not even going to be shy about this. Something crazy happens when you're 22, in college, and get married... you become poor!! Like, how are we going to buy toilet paper poor. So, I have been applying for different scholarships and by applying I mean I started today. Lucky for me I found this fun one!! Vacancy.com is giving away a $500 scholarship to someone who blogs about their ideal apartment in their ideal location. And they said to be creative and have fun, so that, I am. Here goes nothing...P.S pick me so I can buy toilet paper and textbooks.

My ideal location would be good 'ol TEXAS!! Git R Done, yee haw, save a horse and ride a cowboy. And I would love to live in these lovely apartments...  http://www.vacancy.com/texas/houston-apartments/mirabella-apartments . This is a gorgeous property! It is affordable. They advertise one bedroom apartments starting at $699!! I'm not going to say how much people in Orange County pay for a one bedroom, ok I am... friggen over a thousand bucks!! Not to mention everything you get for $699 that you don't get in Orange County. Here at Mirabella Apartments they have covered parking and it is a gated community, so you can park and walk to your home feeling safe!

They have a gorgeous 24 hour fitness center, see below. I need this because marriage not only makes you poor, but also fat. It's honestly a travesty. I mean, you're so in love that all you want to do is make your cute husband good meals like McDonald's and Panda Express and cuddle all day but you're poor so you cant afford a gym pass and then you get fat.

It also has this sweet swimming pool!! Who wouldn't love to just jump right in to that beauty on a hot summer day? Fully clothed of course. I can just picture myself doing canon balls into that pool.
And this wonderful play area? Hello fun!!! I will be pushing my husband off, I mean down, that slide the day we move in.

Mirabella apartments also has high speed Internet which is fantastic so I can continue blogging for all my wonderful readers. Which is probably only my mom. Also fantastic for school work because I love school and that is why I need this scholarship!!

There is also laundry facilities on site for my husband to do laundry. Because he is that great, no joke.

And last, but certainly not least, they are pet friendly! And this guy must come with us.
Why Texas you ask? Well, have you seen Friday Night Lights? So much pride in that state! And football. My husband loves football. He would marry it if it was legal, luckily it's not in case you were wondering. Also, cow tipping. I've never been but if I lived in Texas I would go. And Nasa. Who wouldn't love to see space ships all the time? I know I would. And because duh, everything is bigger in Texas. Or is it better? I don't know, I'll have to google that.

So pick me. Because I am a 22 year old college student who is just trying to be a great wife and an excellent student and for real college is expensive. I wasn't kidding about the toilet paper thing.

Two Month Deets

(this post is late)

Today marked two months of marriage! Though that may seem small to most, I'm pretty excited about it. Mostly excited because these months have been the best of my life and I'm not sick of Scott yet (and hopefully never will be, of course)! Scott and I have learned SO much about each other in this short month and I know we will continue to learn more each day, but marriage is definitely a whole new ball game. While we are having so much fun and loving every minute of it, there's also new stresses I never thought about before we were married. Things like if he ate breakfast, if he had lunch and what he had for lunch, if he has clean underwear and work clothes, if I wake him up in the middle of the night because I pee like every hour, if i remembered to flush the toilet... I never worried about any of that stuff when we were dating. Plus the typical money stress that every young couple faces and finding an appropriate budget. Scott is for sure the saver and I am the spender so we're finding the balance and learning what we believe to be "wants" and "needs".

Some of my favorite advice we were given before the wedding was to "just chill." The dishes may not always get done, you may not know how you're going to pay your bills next month, someone might be in a bad mood and hurt your feelings, but stressing out won't solve any of it. Work hard and just chill. I love that and when I feel my blood pressure rising, I try and remember that.

The other favorite advice was to plan vacations. Whether it's a day trip, weekend or week vacation it's important for the couple to get out just the two of you. It's fun to save for a trip and plan it and the time you spend together is more enjoyed when you have worked together to get there. Our next trip is TBD but we are workin on it :)

These past months my favorite things we've learned about each other...

- scott does not wake up to his alarm. I wake up to it, then wake him up to turn it off. He falls back asleep and I wake him up again 30 minutes later in a panic that he's late to work.

- the first thing he does when he walks in after work or church is strip down to his underwear.

- i am more of a clean freak then I ever imagined. I'm much happier when the house is clean and smells of Lysol.

- we are still working on the toilet seat thing.

- there are only two of us, yet we never have any clean cups! Someone in this house has a cup problem, and it is not me.

- we got a cat. His name is Urban (like Keith Urban) and he is the most precious and annoying thing ever.

- it takes me like an hour after Scott falls asleep, to fall asleep most nights. I don't know why, but it drives me nuts!

- we LOVE our life, just the two of us. No kids. Just us and our cat. Usually every Sunday after church we both say something along the lines of how we love our selfish lives. Selfish meaning we don't have kids and as a couple we can literally do whatever we want, whenever we want. We can wake up and get ready really fast for church, then come home and stuff our faces and take a 3 hour nap just to wake up and lounge around in our underwear. If we had kids, this would not work :) Someday I want my little red headed babies, but not today.

And those are the deets!

Love,
Mrs. Douglas
